Unstageable Pressure Ulcer
Sometimes, a pressure sore does not fit into one of the four stages. In some cases, a deep pressure sore is suspected due to full-thickness tissue loss, but the stage is not clear. The top layer of the sore is covered by dead tissue, which may have a yellow, tan, gray, green or brown color. Sometimes, it may even look like a scab. When the ulcer is unstageable, the doctor cannot see the base of the sore to determine the stage and frequently, the dead tissue or scab covers a deeper, more serious wound that requires removal by a doctor or wound specialist.
