Stage 4 Pressure Ulcer

A stage 4 pressure ulcer is the most severe type of ulcer. At this point, there is full-thickness tissue loss. Essentially, the skin is severely damaged and the tissue surrounding the wound begins to die. Underlying muscles or bone, and even both, is exposed and may also be damaged. When the ulcer has developed to stage 4, there is a serious risk of developing a life-threatening infection.
