Pressure Ulcer on Hip

When constant pressure, or a combination of friction and pressure, is placed against the hip, a pressure ulcer may develop on this area of the body. This skin breakdown can ultimately result in exposure of the underlying tissue, including exposure to the hipbone. The highest incidences of pressure ulcers are found in the following populations:

  • elderly patients with hip fractures
  • quadriplegic patients
  • neurologically impaired young
  • chronically hospitalized patients
